KEY FACTORS
Blondes are one of the most dynamically different hair colors out there, from Ash, Ice, Beige, Honey, Golden, and many many more! There are so many factors that play into having blonde hair, that a lot of people may not know about.
Â
Lightening creates undertone, which are commonly red, orange, or yellow. The darker your natural color, the more undertone or warmth will contribute to the final tone. The undertone that is exposed is not exposed equally for everyone.

At The Legacy Salon, we identify your hair as a category, which in return tells us your undertone at every level of hair color.
Common issues faced during blonding
The product to get you blonder might be too aggressive
Application of bleach is incorrect
Stopping the lightening process too soon or too late
Improper salon maintenance
Multiple degrees of damage to the hair strand
How we face those issue
Any time you lighten hair, using a lower volume will lift you without blasting the cuticle open causing severe damage. Slow and steady bleaching ALWAYS wins the race!
Taking precise placement of bleach plays a big part! Knowing how and where to place it, is one of our biggest specialties. This helps avoid overlapping or Hot Roots.
Lifting hair the proper level (based on your category), will allow our stylist to navigate you to the lightest or darkest blonde with a toner, without over processing your hair causing severe damage.
Depending on your service, we always recommend rebooking your next blonde appointment 4-6 weeks to avoid overgrowth, causing Banding, Hot Roots, and other discolorations for your return visit. To find out more, check out the 'Maintenance' page, or book a consultation.
Any chemical service will alter the texture and porosity of your hair. With our proper prep-services and Olaplex treatments, we keep hair as close to the cleanest and natural state as we can. This helps keep your hair consistent and dependable for future appointments, avoiding any surprises or long term damage in the future.
COMMON ISSUES THAT YOU MAY BE HAVING
"How do I stop my hair from getting too brassy between appointments?"
Blondes are the most reactive color to our everyday lives, meaning there are so many "everyday" factors that can cause your blonde to turn or appear brassy. Exposure to excessive UV rays, medications, smoking, excessive washing, and water conditions play different roles in different people. Having harsh or hard water is the most common across the blonde community. Having a proper clarifying shampoo high enough on the pH scale to remove those deposits. If you wash your hair more than 2-3 times a week, the toner fades sooner, exposing those warm undertones.Purple shampoo's or conditioners are a good way to help reduce brassy tones, but should be used properly. Our TrueHue Shampoo has a perfect formulated blend to clarify your hair, while having a light purple color to refresh your blonde. Using too much of other purple shampoo's or conditioner's not only cause build up which changes the lightness of your blonde, but can cause color reactions at your next hair color appointment.
"Why is my hair so brittle and dry after bleaching?"
In order to lighten your hair, even a shade or two lighter, the melanin (color pigment) in your hair has to be dissolved. The larger the jump you are make from your natural color to blonde, means there's more melanin that has to be dissolved, causing more damage to the cuticle. Bleaching hair without a repair treatment or proper shower care, can leave your hair feeling brittle and dry like straw. We highly recommend clients getting an Olaplex treatment after getting any bleach done, to repair any broken bonds, and rehydrate the cuticle with moisture, to minimize as much damage as possible. Just like putting Aloe on a sun burn, to prevent dry and flaking skin! Unfortunately, there will always be some sort of damage due to bleaching, but providing your hair with the proper treatment and care, will help regulate damage.
"Why does my blonde not pop?"
Hair color is only good as what it's next to. This effects all other hair colors, but most noticeable with blondes. Most common from uneven bleaching or toning of the hair. Sometimes the placement of the blonde can play a big part too! With dimensional blondes, using a lowlight to outline your highlight may be the perfect tweak to help the blonde pop, and help you fall in love with your hair!Â
"Why do I have a weird dark band?"
That weird band is caused from a "hot root". Anytime heat is added to bleach, it accelerates the rate at which it lifts you. Everyone has their own special "Heat Zone" from the heat from your scalp. When hair is grown past this point, the hair at your root will lift faster than the rest of the hair, causing that weird "dark band". The best way to reduce banding is to regularly upkeep your maintenance services with the recommended time frame by our stylists.
MAINTENANCE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE!
When it comes to blondes, maintenance is the most essential part of keeping your blonde stay clean, consistent and natural looking! Most issues occur during services due to improper maintenance between services, or too much time passing between appointments.Â

TIPS
Wet your hair before getting into a body of water
Wetting your hair before getting into any type of salt or chlorine body of water will save you from the infamous "green" pool hair! Think of your hair as a sponge, the more you wet it, the less it will absorb. Using a clean source of water or a leave-in conditioner, like out Elixir 11, to dampen your hair to shield it from absorbing salt, chlorine, and other decolorizing chemicals.
Use a color-safe clarifying shampoo
Keeping your hair clean from build up of product, water deposits, everyday dirt and sweat, is an easy way to keep your blonde looking resilient! We highly recommend using our JT HAIR TrueHue Shampoo to clarify your hair, while keeping your blonde bright with a light purple deposit. It has just the right amount to freshen up your blonde, without the drastic dark purple dye like most purple shampoo.
Surroundings may reflect your blonde differently
Ever look at your blonde and think "I like the photo, but my hair looks more warm than usual"? The brighter your blonde is, the more the lighting from your environment will reflect off your blonde. For example, standing next to a red wall will make your hair appear as a strawberry blonde. Or surroundings with warm brown or yellow colors, might make it appear warmer or brassier.
